Writing Animal Reports: Creating a Slide Presentation

$5.00

This 22-page resource guides your instruction so your young writers can successfully research an animal and create a slide presentation as their report. Five detailed lesson plans follow an effective progression. Included is an explanation of how to build your students’ background knowledge prior to researching.

Lesson 1 establishes the purpose of this writing project and teaches students how to research an animal without plagiarizing. An author’s purposes chart and an effective prewriting sheet is included for the research process.

Lesson 2 guides students through the steps to start a slide presentation and create the title slide. Students learn about the various decisions authors make when creating a multimedia presentation.

In Lesson 3, students create slides for the different sections of their report. They then compose sentences for each slide, using their prewriting sheet to help them include the necessary information. A sentence writing guide is also included to support the writing process.

Lesson 4 focuses on teaching students to add copyright-free images that compliment and/or enhance the text on each slide. Students learn how to resize and position images in an effective manner.

In Lesson 5, students are explicitly taught how to do an oral presentation of their slideshow. Sample anchor charts are included.
