Informational Descriptive Writing Lesson Plans
This resource guides your instruction so your young writers can successfully compose a descriptive paragraph about an animal. Four detailed lesson plans follow an effective progression so that students compose interesting informational paragraphs.
Lesson 1 teaches students what nouns are. Included in the resource is a noun definition chart.
Lesson 2 solidifies students’ understanding of adjectives. There are two versions of this lesson. One would be suitable for most Grade 1 or 2 classrooms. The second version would be suited to most Grade 3 or 4 classrooms. Two versions of adjective word lists are included.
In Lesson 3, students learn how to create a labelled drawing as a prewriting strategy. There is a portrait and a landscape drawing sheet for students’ use.
Lesson 4 guides students’ use of their labelled drawings to help them compose descriptive paragraphs. There are two different paragraph templates for students to use. Differentiation suggestions are included for lessons 3 and 4.
