Beginning, Middle, and End Personal Narrative Lessons
This resource includes two detailed lesson plans to guide students to compose a 3-part story of an event in their lives.
Lesson 1 explains the planning process, using a beginning, middle, and end organizer. Students do quickdraws and add labels to plan their narrative. An example of a quickdraw is included for your reference.
Lesson 2 explains how to use the quickdraws to compose a 3-part narrative. This lesson plan includes a sample “think-aloud” that can assist you with modelling the writing process. A sample narrative is included for your reference.
Two versions of the student writing sheet are included, allowing you to choose the one best suited to your young authors.
NOTE: Prior to teaching these lessons, it’s recommended that you first teach your students the Quickdraw Prewriting Strategy. You can find the free resource in the Personal Narratives page on this website.
